Abstract
The face of a person can be used to uniquely identify him/her. A face detection and face recognition system can be a very effective way to mark the attendance of students in a class. The use of such a system eliminates the use of paper and it also reduces the chances of errors made by humans while recording the attendance. Furthermore, since the attendance records are automatically stored in a digital format, it gets convenient to update, manage, and share the records with the concerned stakeholders. This system uses a Raspberry Pi 3 which is a credit card sized computer, as the main hardware. The system utilizes the computer vision library OpenCV for face detection and face recognition, and uses google sheets to store the records of the attendance. The system when integrated with other modules, is able to send automed notifications through e-mail and SMS. The system has the ability to replace conventional methods of recording attendance in classes, and with the use of this system, a l
